AMATEUR ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS.

There is a probability of Queensland accepting the suggested compromise -by the other colonies as to the dates of the championship meeting at Brisbane. •

The "deadlock respecting the amateur athletic meeting will, it is believed, be surmounted by Queensland fixing November 9 and 11 for the Championship gathering.

The Athletic Union have accepted November 9 and 11 as the dates .of their championship meeting at Brisbane.
CHRISTCHURCH, May 11
At a meeting .of the Council of the Zealand Amateur Athletic Association tonight, a letter was read from the Queensland Association stating .that its council Mas unanimous in the desire to adhere to August 5 and 12, the dates fixed for the Australasian Championship meeting. The New Zealand Council resolved not to send a team unless dates satisfactory be fixed within 14 days. The desirableness of sending an Australasian team to England and Paris in 1900 was affirmed. The following are requested to go into training in view of the Australasian Championships : — Auckland: Madill, D. Wilson, G. Smith, A. • W. Bell, and Te Paa ; Canterbury : H. Pentecost ; Dunedin : Brownlee and W. Kingston ; Napier, St. Hill. The various clubs are requested to give the men I a trial before the final selection.
