Note. — On account of Wednesday being Queen's Birthday, the weekly sale will be held on Tuesday, 23rd. Fat Cattle. — There was a full yarding this week, 241 of one sort or another being penned. The greater portion of this supply consisted of medium-weight and medium quality steers and heifers and aged cows. Really prime bullocks were scarce, and for these there was excellent competition, and prices were rathei better than have been luling of late. Values for other descriptions showed no improvement. Prime ox beef realised fully 20s per 1001b; other qualities from. lGs to 18s. Fat Sheep. — 9182 penned, chiefly ewes, most of them of good quality, however, and a few hundred prime wethers. Trade was particularly brisk throughoui the sale, exporters and butchers alike bidding with great freedom, and prices, as compared with last week, ruled on an average fiom 6d to 9d higher. Prime crossbred wethers brought from 36s 6d to 18s; good do, from"l4s 6d to 16s ; light do, 12s 6d to 14s ; extra prime crossbred ewes (heavy weights), 163 to 17s (1 pen of extra heavy Leicester ewes 19s) ; ordinary crossbred ewes, 12s to 14s 6d ; light do, 10s 6d to lls 9d. Fat Lambs. — 780 penned. Abotic one-half of them prime freezers; the other half very forward stores. The sale, as far as the prices were concerned, was the Tecord one for tho season, and we think we may safely add, the best ever held in Burnside saleyards. Quite evidently exporters having contracts to execute for shipment this month, were forced to pay prices which must leave them heavy losers on their purchases of to-day. Prime lambs sold freely at from 13s to 14s ; good do, 10s 6d to 12s ; forward stores, 8s to 9s. Wright, Stephenson, and Co. sold: For Mr Jas. Macdonald, 40 very prime at lit, and Mr T. Shale (Fairfield), 44 at lls 6d. The Farmers' Agency Company (Limited) penned 243, and sold: For Mr Harvey (Middlemarch), 11 at 13s 6d; Mr W. J. Giddings (Middlemarch), 24 at lls 6d ; Mr A. Pigs were in very short supply, and extreme prices were paid for the 61 that were penned. We can very stioiigly recommend <40nsignnients of bacon pigs, porkers, grown stores, and slips, for next Tuesday's market, as most of tne buyers present to-day will be quite out by next market-day. The following is the range, of prices to-day: — Extra heavy pigs, choppers, 65s tc 703 ; baconers, 51s to 565; porkers, 40s to 445; stores, 20s to 31s; slips, 16s to 19s; suckers, 9s to 143 6d. Wright, Stepheuson, and Co. sold 28 at quotations. Donald liei 1 and Co. yarded 24 and, sold : For Mr R. Gregg (Moss Side), 7 at 28s to 19s; Mr M. Hughes (Wingatui), 3 at 34s Gd to 2-2s; For M. Kyan (Waitahuna), 14 at 12s to 9s 6d. Dalgety and Company (Limited) sold 30 at quotations.

Storo Cattle. — There is some inquiry fcr forward conditioned bullocks for feeding on turnips, and also ior on^ or two-year-old heifers. Both classes are saleable at fair values. We have no transactions to report however.

Store Sljeep. — The demand for all classes of crossbred sheep continues without abatement, and isigo numbers > ould bt. placed were they on offer. -During the past week several important auction sales have been held, and at these a considerable number of forwaid wethers and good stDre lambs hsyvo changed hands at extreivo rates

Country Sales. — Maclean and Co. report having held their usual monthly sale at Owaka on Friday. The entry comprised about 100 head of all classes, but owing no doubt to the lateness of the' season, bad roads, etc., the demand was not keen, and a largo proportion of the stock was passed in. They sold:- For Messrs G. Dabinett, Dabmett and Young, A. Balloch, Latta Bros., W. Forbyth, R. Blyth, F. Eason r M'lntyre and" Sous, and others, bullocks at £5 5s to £2 S&, heifers at £2 17s Cd to £2; cows at £4 IDs 6d to £2 3s 6d; youug cattle at £1 10s to £1; pigs at 7s 6d. r Donald Reid and Co. report having held- a sale at the Waipiata saleyards on Saturday, the 13th inst. The yarding consisted of about 4500 sheep and 150 head cattle. The attendance of buyers was not so large as at previous sales, but the demand was good throughout, and most of the stock entered found purchasers. All sheep .suitable for fattening on turnips were keenly competed for, and sold at good prices, but breeding ewes were not in such request, and did not soil so well as at last sale a month ago. Crossbred wethers sold at 10s 9d to 12s 6d ; merino wethers, 5s 6d ; crossbred lamb 3, 7s 9d to 10s ; crossbred two-tooths (mixed sexes), 9s to 10s Gd ; young crossbred ewes, 10s to 10s 6d ; crossbred ewes (full mouth), 8s to 9s 9d ; merino ewes (full mouth), -Is to 5s 6d. They yarded 1420 sheep, and sold most of them. The Farmers' Agency Company* (Limited) sold at Clinton on Thursday, 11th inst., 340 crossbred wethers at 14s 9d, 158 ewes at 9s 9d, 72- m. ewes at 3s, 116 ewes and wethers at 12s. 106 ewes at 9s 3d, 389 lambs at 9s 3d, 139 do at 7s 3d, and 3 0 head of cattle up to £3 16s. They also report selling at Gore on Tuesday, 16th in st., 911 sheep Wethers up to 13s 6d for stores ; lambs to 9s Id ; and culls ewes, B<t ; and privately, for Mr W. Taylor (Waipahi), 531 mixed two-tooths at lls. At Waipiata on Saturday, 13th inst., they yarded and sold 54 lambs at 9s 7d, 139 do at Bs, 462 do at 7s lid, 101 do at Gs 6d. 22 staers at £S, 4 do at £1 16s 6d. At Wcddei'burn, on the 12th inst., they yarded and sold 150 crossbred wethers at 9s, 158 do at 10s, 131 do at 33s 3d, 93 do at 10s 4d, 103 crossbred ewea at 10j 6d, 359 lambs at 6s 7d, ISA do at 7a Gd, 80 fat do at 9s lid, 9 steers at £4 lGs, 4 do at £1 7s 6d. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report having held their usual fortnightly stock sale at Clinton on Thursday la-st (11th inst.), when they submitted about 4000 sheep in all. A large number of farmers and speculators were present, and bidding was very brisk for all good sorts. There was an extraordinary lun upon wethers fit for tuinipping, as also good conditioned hogget 3. They quote fourtooth wethers to 13s 3d ; two-tooth do to 9s 9d ; and lambs (hoggets) to 8s 2d. All lines were sold under the hammer without any trouble.

Clearing Sales. — Maclean and Co. report having held a clearing sale at Shag Valley on .Tuesday on behalf of Mr George Ross. There was a very large attendance of those interested, and everything went as merriiy as a marriage bell. Mr Ross had all things in apple-pie order, and business was good. Draught horses, £31 10s to JEIS ; young horses and hacks, £7 5s to £4; heifers (springers), £4 2s 6d to £3 ; steers and heifers, £i Is to £2 ss. A few sheep and lambs (mixed) at 10s 7d ; implements, etc., at satisfactory prices. Donald Reid" and" Co. report having held a clearing pale (in conjunction with Messrs Wilson, Mackav, and Co., of Balclutha) for Mr W. H. Riddell at his farm, Inchclutha, on Tuesday, the 16th inst., when they submitted for unreserved sale hi 3 large and well selected stock of dairy cows, horses, young cattle, sheep, implements, growing turnips, etc. The day turned out remarkably fine, and there was a good attendance of speculators, dairymen, horse dealers, and others from Dunedin, Peninsula, Taieri, and Tuapeka districts, and a large gathering of farmers from Clutha and surrounding districts to countenance and give a helping hand to the sale. There was a good demand for young, sound draught and light harness horses broken and unbroken. Aged horses were not in such good request, but all gorts met a very good sale. The dairy stock were a good selection, in first-rate condition, and showed well, but unfortunately for the pale most of them were far off profit, being spring calves. Anything young and near profit met brisk competition, and sold at satisfactory prices. The young cattle were well bred sorts, in fine condition, and realised full values.

II .I .*« V Sheep, porkers, crops, and implements weiaf all disposed of, and a very pleasant and successful sale brought to a close. Draught horses (young and sound) sold at £20 to £31;' draught horses (unbroken) to £18; spring carters and hacks, £10 to £10 10s; dairy cows to £6 2s 6d; young cattle, 31s to 435; bullocks, £4 7s 6d.

Sheepskins. — Medium-sized catalogues were put forward for Tuesday's sale; when there was a good attendance of buyers, and prices were very firm, especially for merinos and fine crossbreds. Quotations: Butchers' skins, Is 9d toj 3s; do lambs, 2s to 2s 4d; dry skins — crossbreds, half to full woolled, 3s to 5s Id; dot quarter to half-woolled, Is 6d to 3s; do pelts and inferior, 4d to Is sd; merinos, half to full woolled, 3s to 5s 6d ; quarter to half-woolled, Is 9d to 2s lOd ; pelts, 2d to lOd each. Rabbitskins.— There was the usual attendance of buyers at Monday's auctions, and although bidding for the better classes was spirited, competition; for the lower sorts was less keen than at last week's sale, and prices for summers and inferior skins showed a slight decline. Quotations are: Early winters, 20ct to 21Jd; autumns, 17£ dto 19d; summers, 13d to 15Jd; light and inferior, 8d to lid; suckers. 4d to 6d per lb.

Hides. — This market is very firm, and extremely high prices are paid for all stout and w&ll flayed ox. Quotations: Best heavy ox, 3|d to 4Jd; medium, 2Jd to 3d; light and inferior, lid to 2id per lb.

Tallow. — Supplies are small. Prices remain, firm at late quotations. Quotations: Prime, rendered mutton, 14s to 16s; mixed, lls_6.d to 13s 6d; inferior* 10s to lls 6d^ rough fat, Bs.to lla per cwt.

\y heat. — Deliveries during the " week have been 'small, but notwithstanding this millers hold fair stocks, and prices remain unchanged. There is a good demand for fowl wheat, -which, is in short supply. Quotations: Prime milling velvet, 2s 4d to 2s 6d; do Tuscan, 2a 3d to 2a sd ; fair to medium do, 2s Id to 2s 2£d ; chick wheat, whole, Is lOd to 2s ; do, broken, Is 6d"to Is 9d per bushe^ ex truck Dunedin (sacks in, terms)

Oats. — Deliveries during the week have been very light, and buyers have been unable to procure their requirements, consequently prices ara considerably firmer, and at the Bluff havo advanced Id per bushel in the -week. Quotations: Good to best feed, Is 3 x »d to Is 4d; medium to good, Is 2|d to Is 3d ;" inferior and discoloured, Is to Is 2d; long Tartars, Is 4d to Is 6d per bushel (ex truck, Dunediiij sacks extra, net).

Barley.— The market is fully supplied with all descriptions, and sales are difficult to effect. Quotations are: Fair to prime malting, 2s 2d to 3s ; extra prime Lakes, 3s to 3s 8d ; feed and milling, Is 6d to 2s per bushel (ex truck, Dunedin, sacks extra, net).

Chaff — Supplies arriving now are small, but the low prices caused by the large quantity that came in last week have not yet advanced. Quotations: Prime oaten sheaf, £2 2s 6d to £2 ss; medium to good do, £1 15s tc £2 per ton (ex truck, Dunedin, bags extra, net). Potatoes. — Large supplies forward and slightly reduced prices have to be accepted. Quotations: Best Derwents, 32s 6d to 355; medium to good, 80s to 32a 6d per ton (ex truck, Dunedin, sacks in, extra).

The Otago Farmers' Co-opefntivo Association (Limited) report : —

Oats. — Market firmer, with good inquiry for best feed at Is 3d to Is 4d; medium and inferior, Is l£d to Is 2id; milling, Is 4d to Is sd , seed lines,, Is 5d to Is 6d per bushel (sacks extra, net). Wheat. — Best milling; in good condition finds ready sale at from 2s id to 2s 63, while medium qualities are neglected at 2a ljd to 2s 3d. Fowl wheat is plentiful at Is lOd to 2s for whole,, and Is 6d to Is 9d for damaged and broken per bushel (sacks in, terms). Potatoes. — Market over-supplied, and sales of best Derwents are made in small lots with difficulty at from 30s to 35s per ton (sacks in, net). Chaff.— Market flat, with moderate demand for" prime at £2 2s 6d to £2 7s 6d ; and medium, £1 12s 6d to £1 17s 6d per ton (sacks extra, net). Inferior is unsaleable. Rabbitskins in good demand at from 1b 8d to 13 6d for best autumns; Is to Is 3d for summers ; and 4d to 9d for small and torn. | Sheepskins command prices fully in sympathy with recent cablo advices from London. We submitted an average catalogue at the weekly auction sales on Tuesday. Bidding was spirited, and we sold everything under~~tho hammer at a considerable advance on the previous week's prices.

Hides. — All coming forward find ready sale at from lid to 4d per lb, according to weight and condition.

Tallow and fat goes into consumption at from 9s to 15s per cwt, according to quality. We hold regular auction sales of grain and produce on Mondays, skins on Tuesdays, and fat stock at Burnside on Wednesdays. Country and clearing sales as required.
