PIUZE TALE COMPETITION.

The Proprietors of the Otago Daily Times and Witness beg to announce that a Prize Tale Competition on the same lines as that of last year will bo held in connection with their Christmas Annual, to be published at the end of the current year.

Tho tales will again be profusely illustrated, a fact which necessitates the MS. being in out hands somewhat earlier than would otherwiso be necessary. The illustrating will be placed in competent hands, and as the whole * sue will be printed on super-calendar paper, this feature of the Christmas Anuual may agiia. be looked forward to as one of special i -.iteres!;. Ten prizes will be awarded, ranging froai £5 to 10s, and totalling £27 10s.

THE PRIZE TALE COMPETITION

will extend from April 1 to June 30, ancl PRIZES TO THE VALUE OF £27 10s will be offeied as below : — First Prize £5 0 0

And the propriejLors^-reserve to themselves the right to use any other tale in the competition at the same rate of remuneration as the 10th prize. CONDITIONS OF THE PRIZE TALE COMPETITION. No tale to exceed 3000 words in length. While Colonial subjects will have the pre« ference, the Plot need not necessarily have a Colonial Foundation.

Each tale to be accompanied by a speciallywritten description of the chief character or the chief incident, which will be placed by the publishers in the hands of a competent artist to be sketched for reproduction as a half-tone engraving. As an alternative to this a sketch of the character or incident would be acceptable. . '

The judging will be placed in the hands of a thoroughly competent and independent authority, and the announcement of the awards will, if possible, be made a month after the close of the competition. All MS. to have a norn de plume attached, and to be accompanied by a sealed envelope addressed to the Editor of the Otago Witness, containing the writer's name and address, the name of the tale, and the norn de plume attached to the MS. This envelope will remain, unopened until the receipt of the awards from the judge. All tales to be original and tho bona Sdo work of the writer.
