THE IMPERIAL GOVEKNMENT SUBSIDY.
-' LONDON, April 27. | It is announced that the Imperial Government have decided to contribute to the Pacific cable. England's contribution will take the shape of a yearly subsidy of the amount of the guarantiee recommended ' ia the report of the commission of 1896. i The cable is to be laid between Van--couver, Fanning Island, Fiji, Norfolk Island, Queensland, and New Zealand. The Postal authorities doubt the accuracy of the cable relative to the British ■ subsidy for the Pacific cab!* '
