PROOF OF INNOCENCE. i ACCUSATIONS AGAINST THE \ > WAR OFFICE. PARIS, April 24. General Billot denies having paid Esterhazy 80,000f. j Tha London Observer's Paris correspon-! dent deposed that' Esterhazy frequently' admitted to him having, written the bor- j dereau, which, he alleged, was neyer- in j the possession of any Foreign Power, but j was 'deposited in the lodge at the Conciergerie prison, and was taken thence by j Colonel Henry, who tore it into bits, in ' order to increase the deception. [ April 26. j The Full Court of Caftation, now inves- j tigating the Dreyfus case, declined to confront General Roget Avith Colonel Picquart, as requested by the latter, whose evidence at the revisionary proceedings w^s contradictory to the statements made by the general. April ii! ColonelFreystater, a member of the courtmartial which condemned Dreyfus, deposed that Colonel Henry's evidence convicted Dreyfus. M. Bathon deposed that when General Billot doubted the guilt of Dreyfus, Henry perpetrated the forgery to convince him. M. Cuignet said he was convinced Paty de Clam was the chief author of Henry's forgery. M. Charavey declared that the bordereau was the work of Esterhazy. | April 28. ! A Guiana functionary in 1897 discovered j a document sent from Cayenne by mistake, \ in which it was clearly proved that Drey- j fus was then innocent. He forwarded the document to M. Lebon, who was then Minister for the Colonies. The Court of Cassation now demands j that this document be produced. j M. Poleologue, an official of the French Foreign, Office, accuses the War Office of j falsifying fresh documents in the Dreyfus dossier; also of deliberately upholding a wrong rendering of a telegram sent by Colonel Pannizardi, the Italian attache at Paris, asking the Italian Government to deny having had any relations with Dreyfus if none existed, although the War Office ! was informed of the correct interpretation of the telegram in question. He exculpates Dreyfus. May 1. Esterhazy declares that the French Government tried to purchase bis secrets and documents.
