May 1. — The sawmill here, the only industry at Cromarty, is still going along in its quiet way. I hear that another is to be started in Chalky Inlet, about 10 mileß from here.
Mining. — The Golden Site is still working at its irregular reef, the returns being' usually small. The Morning, having no stone, except some far too poor to 'work, has practically, shut down, only about a dozen men being required to keep prospecting. There is little change at the other mines.
Political.— Mr Gilfedder, M.H.K., -was here for .a few hours, and delivered a short address aj; Cromarty before the steamer left. A vote by show of hands declared all" at the meeting as having confidence in the present member and the present Government. Hi 3 stay Was too short for the delivery of an address at Te Oneroa. Coming In.— The steamer will to-day be bringing in almost all the miners from Te Oneroa.
