RIVERSADLE.

May 1. — This is the first day of winter, and the season is with us punctually, as the high hills are white with snow this morning and tba air very cold. We have had a lot of rain ■at'-Jy, and no doubt the fine weather has finally departed. Threshing and carting aTe tile order of the day at present, and large quantities of grain are being poured into Riversdale. So

far I have not heard complaints about a shortage of trucks, but on Saturday I saw a large of oats stacked up on the loading bank, so it looks lather as if trucks were not so

plentiful as they have been. This, of course, "is caused by the increased quantity of grain coming in, and the high pressure will last all through this month. The sheep sale on the 20th ult. had a very large entry, and most aatisfactory prices were realised for all descriptions of stock. Rabbits. — This industry is assuming large proportions, and the buyers all appear to be very busy. I Hear that the price per pair is to be raised to 7d from to-day, which, no doubt, will spur up the rabbit-catchevs to still further exertions. Amusements. — The Gore Amateur Dramatic Society performed here on Wednesday last, and gave a good entertainment, but the house was very poor. The night was wet, and the farmers are all still busy, which had a good deal to do with the paucity of the attendance. The company went up to Waikaia on Saturday to piny there that night. Riversdale Rifles Diabandmeiit. — The mills of

the Government, like those of the gods, grind slowly— very slowly. It is only quite lately that the disbandment of our local corps was gazetted, the disbandment to dscte from September last. It is to be hoped that the department will be able to moboliso their troops more quickly thau they can disband them, or

it will be a bad thing for the country. The corps will have to hold a final meeting to confirm the motions previously carried, and this has been called for Saturday, the 6th, at 7 o'clock. As two-thirds of the members must be present, it is to be hoped that there will be a good muster of the ex-members to attend the funeral of their old corps.

Football

Club.— The annual

meeting of thin club was held last Saturday night, when it was resolved to cairy on the

game for the present season. The club is practically not in debt, but doubtless it wants more support from the local young men. Mr W. Gee was elected president, and a large and influential committee appointed. Mr J. Reid is secretary again. It was decided to ask Mr W. A. Donald for permission to use Donald Park for matches. The first match of the season (a scratch one) will be held in Donald Park on Wednesday, the 10th.
