RIVERTON.

April 29. — Those farmers who were able lo get their crops safely in before Easter have occasion to congratulate themselves, as since then there has been no fine weather, and such grain as ia yet out, of which there is unfortunately a good deal, is in a bad way, and, from present appearances, there is very little prospect of a. favourable change. Heavy, muggy ■weather, with frequent rain, is not calculated (to improve the quality of grain that has been already some weeks in stook. Had the fine ■weather lasted but a week longer many hundred pounds' worth of grain would have been saved' that will now in all probability be utterly ruined.

Political.— The call of the Rev. T. Neave to Xurow has somewhat cleared the political atmosphere, as had he remained here he would nave stood, again, with every prospect of success. The only prospective candidates so far lire the sitting member and Mr Carmichael, of Otautau. Should these two only go to the poll it will be practically a walk-over for Mr Giliedder, as his opponent can hardly expect any support outside his own district. It is of course_ possible that the National Association will ye,t have something to -say in the matter. In any case the present member will take a lot of beating, and, aside from party questions, he deserves to win, for he is a tremendous worker, even the remotest corner of his electorate receiving his assiduous attention.
