JORDAN'S TOUR. Throughout last week Mr Jordan met all comers at the European Hotel. The Gore contingent, being in Dunedin until Wednesday last, took advantage of the opportunity to try their strength against the champion. As will be seen by the scores below, Mr J. Gardiner, although he has so far not drawn a game, managed to secure a win, which considerably augments the burden of honour with which he returned to Gore. The Gore players will, no doubt, give Mr Jordan a hard battle when he reaches their thriving town, and we predict a good- score. Last Friday night waß a bitter winter evening, and only three boards were in use, 10 games being played, and only one drawn. —by Mr Butterfield.. Saturday's play comprised 29 -games, with" five draws —one each by Messrs J. A. Lucas, R. Lawson, and D. Murchison, and J. P. Beck two. The latter ha» not been long at the game, and deserves credit for his plucky stand, drawing two out of four games played. Mr Jordan's stay in Dunedin has been attended by most satisfactory results, and but for his indisposition on one or two occasions, would have been even better. He has, however, regained his usual vigour, and began his country toui on Monday. He left for Portobello by the afternoon boat, accompanied by Mrs Jordan To-day (Tuesday) he is due at Port Chalmers, returning to Dunedin on Wednesday. He then goes south, travelling according to the undermentioned programme. During the champion's absence in. the south Mrs Jordan will remain in Dunedin.
