ONKAPARINGA.
Last week I was able to give an outline of the results of the chief races at this important South Australian meeting. Particulars now to hand show that in the Trial Stakes Nitrous (by Neckersgat — Lady Lovelace) paid £15 15s; that Onkaparinga won the Amateur Steeplechase, paying £15 12s ; and that Interlude, by Aborcorn — Prelude, got home in the Disposal Stakes, for which he was favourite. The Sportsman's correspondent says that on Easter Monday there was tho usual large crowcl at Oakbank, and the racing, if anything, surpassed the average, the Steeplechase being one of the most interesting events of the kind ever witnessed in South Australia. Iramoo carried a record amount of money in the Hurdle Race, but he destroyed his chance early by mulling a jump badly and getting rid of his rider. After that, most" of the others fought out a good battle between them, and victory rested with Allahditta, whose form on the flat is pretty fair. Albury Queen came down, and treated her rider, Beveridge, to a very nasty fall, but his injuries are not considered dangerous. Nitrous, a two-year-old brother to Portsea, won the Trial Stakes, in which the Victorian mare Churchlight was favourite. She showed prominently for a while, but died out in the end. Despite his big weight, Paul Pry was entrusted with a fair share of the bullion invested on the Cup, and he won in most convincing style. Paul allowed Blue Blood to make the running, but the grey had no chance when Sir Rupert Clarke's geldingput in his run. Paul Pry was ridden by ]SV. Powell, who has been associated with him in most of his best races. Mr Crozier started three in the Cvp — viz., Gnullo, Security, and Cicero, but none of them made much of s=how. Carbinier secured third, but there was not much merit in the placingß, as Paul Pry won with great ease. Domino won the Steeplechase like the great horse he is. Accidents did not begin until the. long journey had been travelled,' and as a spectacle the race was a great success. Domino was a 1 way 6 in a good position, and in the end he won rather comfortably from the outsider Bombggtio and
N.Z. The winner jumped. in his usual finished style, never put a foot wrong all the distance, and he was very ably handled by Alf. Williams, who last Easter steeled Songster to victory in the same race. Amongst the fallen was Tremolo, who was carrying 13.5 gallantly when he turned. The fall, fortunately, did not mean much damage to either horse or rider. The Thunderbolt mare Tranquillity, who had previously exhibited considerable smartness, was too good for the opposition in the Hills Railway Stakes.
