EDENDALE.

April 17. — Since the beginning of the present year our district has been favoured with very fine weather on the whole. As a consequence, harvesting and threshing are over, and most of the grain removed. By all reports it would seem that no district south of your town is more favoured with seasonable operations. Only a moderate area was Under crop, chiefly in oats, which, yielded fairly well, giviig a probable yield of 60 bushels for the dUfrict. The Land Company are growing v. 'ieat to a limited extent. Some fields gave {.ood crops,- although in one instance a partial iuilurc was discernible, 'apparently owing to the ravages of the wire-worm. A quantity of oats has been solfi out of the district, but several farmers prefer holding in hopes of some improvement in the price later on.

Improvements. — Two buildings of interest i have lately been erected in proximity to tho railway station. Tlie Land Company have just completed a large grain store. It is of durable* ap-oearance, the wails and roof being of corru- : gated iron and the floor of concrete, with a j capacity for holding 12,000 sacks. The other j building in, question is a less imposing struc- i ture, doing duty as a rabbit-receiving depot, ] Mr Lambert, of rabbit-export fame, beine the proprietor. In common with other places, ] continual war is waged against bunny, with j •the result, of course, that the survivors are ] given more room and better feed to promote ! health and vigour.

Musical.— For some time a drum and fife band has been, in existence. This institution was promoted -by our genial 'stationmstster, Mr Fans, and was enthusiastically taken up by quite -a number tolr the young men of the district. . Mr Monteath .accepted the poet of bandmaster. . ' v . Bcclesiastical.— Sk»c»" tne " departure of Rev. Mr $mellio to' Australia this ministerial district nas been vacanj. Although the pulpit has been kept fully supplied, no choice has yet been made as regards a settled pastor. The congregation, however, seem anxious to effect a settlement, and have appointed a large committee to further that object.
