THE PROGRESS MINES' DISPUTE. R^EFTON, April 4. The following is the decision of the Arbi« tration Court, which sat here on Saturday to inquire into an alleged breach of the award of the Conciliation Board in 1897, by the Consolidated (Limited) and ProgresjMines of New Zealand :— " In respect- of rock drill men's wages, of whom some were fixed at lOe, but some of whom had since been paid 9s 6d, the defendants were fined £25, and ordered to pay 10s. In the case of engine-drivers several of these were paid 10s instead of 11s Bd, as fixed by the board. A fine of £1 was imposed, and 11s 8d ordered to be paid in future. The courb decided not to interfere with the employment of certain hands for 12 hours on Sunday, as a permit to employ them hat! been obtained for work which the evidence showed to be necessary. Nor »v«s tbo ' court satisfied that there had been discrimination aa against unionists in ihd matter of employment.
