CHRISTCHURCTC, April 6. Out of 429 old-age pensions payable on April 1 ;ifc Christchnrcn, 352 were applied for on that day. Up to March 51 1018 claims for pensions had been received and 629 certificates granted. Mr Taylor, deputy-registrar of claims dnder the Old-age Pensions Act for the Dnncdin district, na,s received up to the present 765 claims for pensions. Of this numoer, 613 have been granted by the stipendiary magistrate. Five hundred and forty-one claims had been granted up to the end of February, and to this number pensions were payable by the Post Office authorities on (Saturday, April 1. On that date 262 payments were applied for, and since Saturday the number has been increased by 155, making a total of 417 pensions .applied *or out of the 541 payable. Pensioners -are given three weeks Iro'm the first day of each month in which to apply for their money. Since th.i payment or pensions came into force, on February 1, six persons—five in receipt of full pensions and one in receipt of a pension of £7 a- year—have died, thus relieving the Consolidated Fund to the extent of £95 a year.
