At tho fortnightly meeting of the Tonbridge Board of Guardianp, the master reported 'that the experiment of not allowing the inmates beer for Christmas dinner had pro\ed very patisfactory, for, after 17 years' experience, it was the most pleasant time he had had. All seemed to enjoy themselves; there was not a single murmur about the absence of beer, and less trouble was given the officers.
