Too many false, nkguised as truth, Too many truths despised, and both So needful to modern morals! Too much cackle and nothing done, Too little said by many a one On the subject of modern morals. Too many faulU discerned in others By fathers and mothers and sisters and brothers — Enthusiasts on modern morals. Too many friends and acquaintances United to kindred circumstances • By the "mint "of modern morals. . Too many selfish kindnesses Prom each to each ; but blindnesses - Are blinder on modern morals. Too rich, too poor, too clever, To live long enough to discover Corruption in modern morals. Too much pride and vanity, Ambition, fame, insanity, In nineteenth century morals. Too little work, too much invention, Too — ah ! machines have no intention To corrupt our modern morals. Too much duplicity in " biz.," But superficial the policy is Of nineteenth century morals. Too much covetous greed and spoil, Too much monoply— but we must be loyal To the dogma of modern morals. Too many prayers anc? fears and fancies, Too much dependent on church financesSociety's modern morals! Too much passion, too little love! Too much joy in the mansions above; Too much left for the " sweet by-and-bye," And thus it is on the shelf laid by, Are the problems of present moral?. ■ r * • t I A pessimist and an optimist Together discussed one- day On the subject of modern moral*!
