THE GAZETTE. WELLINGTON, April 6.

The following amending regulations undei the Government Railway Department Classificntion Act, 1896, are gazetted: — (1) No person shall become 9 member if two or more persons belonging to his family arc already members, and clause 3 of the principal regulations is modified accordingly. (2) In case of apprentices in the seoond division the age of applicant at the time of his becoming a member shall not exceed 16 years, and clause 9 of the principal regulations is modified accordingly/ \5) Persons may be temporarily employed, in any branch of the department in cases where the Minister is satisfied that the exigencies of the department so require, and clause 26 oi. tho principal regulations shall apply only to persons in the temporary employment of the department. Regulations covering the recently mentioned compensation for loss or damage to parcels by the parcel post system are gazetted. The Gazette notifies that licensed persons may fish with one rod and line foi trout, perch, and tench, in the Southern Acclimatisation district until the 30tb inst. Mr George Hogben's appointment as Secretary of Education and Inspector-general of schools is gazetted. Detective O'Brien, and Sergeants Macdonell, Kiely, and Wilson, are gazetted Sub-Inspectors in the Police force. The Oamaru Mail states that Mr H. R. Parkoi will not be a candidate for the Wai* taki seat.
