EXPORT OF DAIRY PRODUCE.

GRADING FOR THE AUSTRALIAN COLONIES.

The following circular has been issued by Mr J. D. Ritchie, Secretary for Agriculture :

" In response to the wish of a large number of exporters, it has been decided to extend the system of grading to dairy produce for shipment to tho Australian colonies and Fiji ; therefore on and after this date all butter and cheese must be despatched so as to reach the store at the port of shipment at least 48 hours before the advertised hour of departure of the steamer in which it is intended to be shipped. " The grader at the store must be advised of the despatch of each consignment by first ■mail, with number of packages, brands, registered numbers, and weights, etc., care being taken to see 'that tho packages are correctly marked. Advice notes, in books of 100, can be had from the Government printer; price 23 each. " The produce will be stored for one week, i^nd handled in and out of store free of cost. Any" storage incurred beyond one week shall bo charged for and paid on demand.

" The" Government accepts no responsiblity or risk whatsoever in connection "with the insurance, storage, or handling. "" No produce Ehall be removed from the store without the consent of the grader in charge.

" The ports of shipment and stores for dairy produce for shipment to the Australian colonies and Fiji are : — Auckland : Auckland Freezing Company's Store; New Plymouth: Taranaki Freezing Works, Moluroa ; Wellington : Wellington Harbour Beard's Store ; Lytlelton : Lyttelton Harbour Board's Store ; Dunedin : James Duthie and Co.'s Store, Bond street; -Bluff: Nichol Bros.' No. 1 Store.

WELLINGTON, April 6. The following ports and cool stores for the shipment of dairy produce and storage respectively are gazetted : —Ports for shipment of dairy produce — Auckland, Waitara, New Plymouth, Wellington, Lyttelton, Port Chalmers, Dunedin, and Bluff. Buildings for the storage, cooling, or freezing of dairy produce prior to export to United Kingdom : — For butler only — Auckland Freezing Company's Cold Store; Wellington Meat Export Company's Freezing Works. For cheese only — Wellington Harbour Board's Store. For both butter and cheese — Waitara Freezing Company's Works, Taranaki ; Freezing Works, Moturoa: Lyttelton Harbour Board s Cold Stores ; Southland Frozen Meat and Produce Export Company's Store, Bluff. To Australian colonies and Fiji— Butter and cheese : Auckland Freezing Company's Store, Taranaki. Freezing Works, Moturoa; Wellington Harbour Board's Store; Lytlolton Harbour Board's No. 2 Brick Shed ; Duthie and Co.'s ■ Store, Bond street, Dunedin ; Nichol Bros., No. 1 Store, Bluff.
