Excursion trains ran a number of Wellington- sports to this Easter meeting, and if the attonaancn wn° not a record, it came up U- the menace. Mr F. .Martin, who used to rac'j llelina won the Trial Handicap with the old Una- >' daughter Cornea, half-sister to tho disapjvjii.iiiipc Ghoroid. She went away h-oiLi the <-tarl aad wi<° never asked to gallop. Of the four fcUrtere for the Telegraph Han-

dicap, Coin made the pace for part of the way, but retired suddenly, and finished last, the issue being between Waingawa and Famous, who fought out a ding-dong finish, resulting in the former's favour by a neck. The winner i 3 by Voltiguer, who is also sire of La Volta, winner of the Hack Hurdles. Bikeoline, the pacemaker in this event, had had enough of it half a mile from home, and Jumbo, who took up the pursuit, could not touch La Volta for speed. Derringcotte carried the steadier of 10.3 in the Flying Hack Handicap, and this stopped him, as backers expected, Ngatahuia 7.12 getting home rather eatily. A splendid start in tho Easter Handicap found Sir Agnes and Australina first to get going. Doreen, daughter of Derringer and Water Queen, flattered her supporters by taking command after half of the distance had been covered, but when Sir Agnes came at her she collapsed, and the troubler proved to bo Whario, who came very fast under pressure and made a dead heat with Sir Agnes. Tho owners agreed to divide. Whario is by Piscatorions ; Sir Agnes by Master Agues, the powerful chestnut that, as a youngster, raced for the Hon. W. Robinson. At the start for tho H«ck Welter a delay was caused by Greygown bolting twice. When the word was given this member shot to tho front, but quickly collapsed, as these rushers generally do, and the end of a fine race amongst three others resulted in Ambrosia winning by a length. Waingawa made light of tho penalty in the Open Welter, winning in a canter. On the second clay Sir Agnes had a pretty easy win in the Autumn Handicap, but the 51b penalty thus incurred brought about his defeat in the more important race, the Stewards' Stakes, a close tuasle ending in Volley's fmour with nothing to f-pare. This Volley is another of Voltigeur s stock. Derringcotte was again beaten by Ngatahuia in the County Hack Handicap, though allowed 111b for the fir3t day's defeat. There should uoc bo more than a stone between i iiia pair next tiim. they meet.
