SHOOTING COMPETITIONS.

PORT CHALMERS NAVAL ARTILLERY.

DUNEDIN RIFLES. The Dunedin Eifles (Burt's Corps) fired the second competition for the Challenge Cup on Saturday. The conditions were 10 shots at 200 and 500 yards. The following arethe best scores : —

The second-class shots also fired the final for the gold medal, which was won by Lieu-tenant-corporal Poole. Conditions : Seven shots at 200 and 600 yards. Lieutenant-corporal Poole, scr, 56 (winner's grand total 115), 1 ; Private Morrison, 5 points, 58 (second total 99), 2; Private Hartz, 5 points, 41 (third total 97), S; Private Simmonds 4 points, 37 (fourth total 94), 4. NORTH DUNEDIN RIFLES. The North Dunedin Rifles fired on Saturday last their second competition for Hallcnstein's Cup and other prizes at the Pelichet Bay range. Conditions: Ranges— 3oo and 500 yards; 10 shots with optional sighters at each distance, kneeling at 200 yards. The following were the highest scorers: —

. DUNEDIN NAVAL ARTILLERY. The Dunedin Naval Artillery fired on Saturday the sixth of a series of matches for the corps' belt and other prizes. Conditions: Ten shots ,at 200 (kneeling) and 500 yards ; M.H. carbine. The highest scores in each class were: —

* Range prizes. DUNEDIN RIFLE CLUB v.PORTOBELLO. On Saturday afternoon the above clubs met on the former's range at Holyrood to take part in a friendly match. Unfortunately there was a, slight drizzling rain most of the afternoon, but this did not interfere with the pleasure of the shootists, and " a very enjoyable match" was the unanimous opinion. The conditions were 10 men a-side; seven shots at 800, 600, and 600 yards. It will bo seen that the local chib won by 20 points. At the conclusion of tho match the captains (Major M'Cartney and Mr Armstrong) called for three cheers for their respective opponents, which was cordially responded to. The scores were Dunedin Rifle Club.

» PORTOBELLO RIFLE CLUB.

DUNEDIN ENGINEERS. On Saturday afternoon the Dunedin Engineers fired the third competition for the Ladies' Challenge Belt and accompanying trophy, and for Major Beal's and other prizes. The conditions were seven shots and aighter at 200, 500, and 600 yards. The afternoon -was a most unpleasant one for shooting, and no verj high scores were registered. The following were a few of the highest scorers. —

A fresh N.E. breeze, accompanied by thick drizzling rain, prevailed throughout the afternoon, but, despite these discouraging conditions, a goodly number assembled at the range.
