AFFAIRS AT RAROTONGA.
AUCKLAND, April 7. .The "Toa Karanga," of the 18th ult., to hand to-day by the s.s. Ovalau, from Rarotonga (Cook group), has the following .— " At a silting of the Deputy-com-missioner's Court, held on the 13th inst., before Colonel Gudgeon, deputy commissioner, Ngamaru Ariki, addressing the court, said : I am uttering the thoughts anJ wishes of Makea Ariki, chief of the Federal Government, also the Arikis Mataipos, and rangatiras of Rarotonga, 1 hat it is their wish that certain Europeans should be depoited on arrival of the first British man-of-war. This request is made owing to continual trouble caused by Europeans agains.t the Government of the land and the representative of her Majesty Queen Victoria. These are the people : — Henry Ellis, Peter Cowan. Frederick G. Mus3, William Macalister, Henry Nicholas, Thus. Sherman, and John Scard." He further said that it was the opinion of the chief of Government with the Rarotonga Government that if these people mentioned were out of the island there would be no further trouble. These people were continually causing trouble. They wish also that if any Chinamen, together with people belonging to these islauds, should create
any trouble* that they also be deported. The judge said: That for deportation there must bo evidence of necessity. I think ifewould be better to hold the charges oveV until the Governor arrived, and lay them before him. I could order the deportation through a judgment of this court..
