THE SECOND TRIAL MATCH. MELBOURNE, March 10.

The second test match between the Australian Eleven and the Rest- of Australia, which began to-day, was favoured with fine weather. The Rest of Australia were tho first to bat. Reedman was smartly taken at the wickets. When Trumper came, Iredale gave him a life before he had scored. A few minutes' lively play followed, and then Giller gave Iredale a chance, which he availed himself of. Layer commenced a busy innings right away, and, with Trumper, carried on to the luncheon adjournment, after which Trumper dealt it out to M'Leod, but the latter had his revenge by yorking him. Mackenzie followed, and the score gradually mounted. A couple had been added to the century when Layer hit a ball to the bowler Jones, who held it. Graham's appearance was short-lived. Giffen succeeded him, and Mackenzie, who had played cramped cricket, shortly afterwards gave way to Coningham, who, after getting f, spooned one to Hill. -The other wickels fell rapidly.

The Australian Eleven went in before time was called. Iredale, after making a single, sent one to Eady. There was only a small attendance of the public. March 11.
