Household Hints.
To clean Avash-leather glo\-es, remove the grease spots by rubbing Avith magnesia or cream of taitar. Prepare a lather of lukewarm Avater and Avhite soap ; wash the gloves in it, wring them, and squeeze them through a fresh lather. Rinse first in lukeAvarm Avater, then in cold, and stretch them (on wooden hands if possible) to dry in the sun or before the fire.
Almond Paste. — An almond paste for the hands is made as iolloavs : — Of bitter and sweet almonds, 2oz each ; pound and mix thoroughly with -^oz of grated Castile soap, 12 drops of oil of bercamot and 50Z of oil of almonds ; let it heat and stir Avell together. — Paste.
Walnut Hair Dye. — The simplest form is the expressed juice of the bark or sItjII of green walnuts. To presence the juice a little rectified spirit is added to it, Avith a. feAv bruised cloa-cs, and the Avhole digesced together Avith occasional agitation for a Aveek or a fortnight. Then decant the clear portion. — C. G. Z,
Pot Pourri. — Gather fresh rose leaves in thoroughly dry weather, and place them in a large, covered, glazed, earthenware jar. BetAveen each layer of leaves sprinkle some common table salt, and coA r er up the jar tightly after each layer of leaves is put in it. Do this throughout the summer. The ros>e leaves Avill sink, and alloAv of a great quantity boing put in. When the jar is full, let it stand for about a fortnight, then squeeze the leaves from the salt Avith the hand, and add the folloAving : — loz each of storax and benzoin, 2oz of orris root, and loz of all-spice. All these to be Avell poAvdered ; ldr each of bergamot, oil of Cassia, and oil of lavender, and 2oz of cloves. Mix all these ingredients Avell together, and thoroughly incorporate the same Avith the rose leaves. Fill large china jars. Lavender may be dried by itself, and added to the rose leaves ; also the SAveet-scenled petals of the Avhite jassamine, orange flo Aver blossom, and other SAveet-scented flo Avers. But these must all be simply dried in the sun, and mixed Avith the rose leaA r es before the scent is added.
