JUBILEE CONVALESCENT FUND.
The annual meeting of subscribers to tha Queen's Jubilee Convalescent Fund was. held in tho Town Hall on Friday mofning at 11.30. Mrs Fergus presided, and there*^were present— Mesdames Morris, Sale, Maitland, Callan, Stowart, and Mathieson.
The annual report was as follows: —
Another year of work in connection with our convalescent fund has just closed. . The past year has been very much like those that hay. preceded it. The committee have done what they could in tbe way of sending patienta to tha countiy or seaside for re3t and change. None of those applying (being properly recommended, have been refused. Forty-foiu: patients have been sent av»ty during tho year. Seven of those had their travelling expenses only paid, as they went to stay with frienda or relations, whilst a large number were sent to Waitati, others going to Green Island, Naseby, Lawrence, and Palmerston. Most of those sent away have returned very 'much improved in health aud able to resume their work, whilst a few, whose cases were hopeless before going for a change, passed away. In a good many instances the committee* havo granted three weeks and four weekd when that^ was thought necessary by their medical advisers. As in the past, Mm Drysdale still does her utmost to make tho3e sent to her happy and comfortable. Through the kindnes3 of Mr 3 M'Ritchie we have been able to hear of suitable board and lodging in Pa?me"rston South, wlure at present we have a patient. The. climate of this part of Otago being dry, ancl the situation inland, it is well suit-od for chest complaints. Until quite lately we have had some difficulty in getting accommodation there, and have been obliged to send some convalescent* to Lawrence and Naseby ; but the length of the journey to either of theso places is somewhat trjing tp those in delicate health, but for the future -we do not anticipate any trouble in thia respect, as we will 'be able to get all we require in Palmerston. In April the committee were reluctantly obliged to accept Mrs Webster's resignation from the Bo?rd of Management as she felt unable longer to discharge the duties. Mrs Webster had been president and an active member of committee for several years. We were very sorry to lose tho services of our able treasurer Mrs Theomin, v/ho resigned her position in Augxist on acccamt of her intended visit to Victoria, Mrs Colquhoun kindly consented, on a moment' 3 notice, to fill this gap. "We were fortunate to secure her services, as the work was not new to her, she having acted in this capacity for the convalescent fund some years ago. We desire to thank all who have helped us in our work in the past, and hope they may still continu« to extend to this good -.york their substantial sympathy during the year just begun. "W* do not think it is necessary to point out the good done by this fund so as to recommend to all interested in philanthropic work; it speaks for itself. Then it is not narroweel by any sectarianism, but extends help to women of every creed, or none. The committee desire to thank his Worship the Mayor for the use of a room in which to hold their meetings.
The balance sheet showed that there was a balance in the bank ox £76 12s 9d, and also £568 8s to the credit of the deposit account.
The report and the balance sheet were adopted on the motion of Mrs Morris, seconded by Mrs Sale.
The following office-bearers were elected : — President, Mrs Martin ; treasurer, Mrs Colquhoun ; secretary, Mrs Stewart ; committee, Mesdames Morris, Theomin, Carew. Fergus, Clark, Mackerras, Haynes, Sale, Callan, Oliver, and Maitland.
