Lord Lyon's sire is the unbeaten horse Lord Salisbury (imp., 1207 Clydesdale Stud Book), dam Myrtle, by Prince of Wales (imp.), grand dam Molly M'Kissock (imp. by the late Mr M'Callum), her sire Lord Lyon (489 C.5.8.). Molly M'Kissock took first prize at Ayr and Dumfries in 1879. Lord Salisbury cost £1500, Prince of Wales 1500gs, and Young Prince of Wales 900gs. Lord Lyon has been shown at Oamaru, Dunedin, Gore, Tapanui, Invercargill, and Taieri, and was first and champion each time shown. He is the best breeding horse south of Oamaru, and breeders will be serving their own interests by encouraging a man to bring a horse of his class into the district. Only a limited number of mares will be taken. Lord Lyon is a sure foal-getter. G-dam, Keir Mary (203, C.5.8.), by Loch Fergus Champion (419, C.5.8.); g g-dam by Lord Clyde (477, C.5.8.), won second prize at the Highland Society's Show at Kelso in 1863, and first at Stirling in 1864. Wallace has been champion from Christchurch to Invercargill, only being beaten once, and that by St. Alexander. ,In Melbourne he was second to Prince of Alb'yn, and that just after a long sea voyage from Scotland.
