OTAGO SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION EXHIBITION.
The hon. secretaries of the forthcoming Otago Sunday School Union Industrial Exhibition inform us that not one-half of the secretaries of the schools have sent in their entry books containing the musical entries, which closed on Monday la&t. The returns- made- up from those sent in show that 190 entries have been received for tho musical section XI. This does ■•not include the choir contests, entries for which close with all other sections on November 1. A number of schools, however, have already entered, and one school in particular is putting forward two choirs. The entries are coming forward very satisfactorily for the other sections. Great interest is taken in the mapping and writing competitions, and young people from all over New Zealand are competing in these two departments. The Curio Committee are receiving good support from a number of prominent citizens, so that this branch may be looked forward to with pleasure. An efficient orchestra has been secured to play in the afternoon and evening throughout the exhibition. Plans have been drawn up and approved as to tho best means of displaying the various exhibits. All the musical contests, the recitations, reading, spelling bee, mental arithmetic, and such competitions are to be held in the Victoria Hall. The part of the building known as the Machinery Hall will be occupied with a mining camp in full working order. A gentleman in Dunedin has been for some time spending considerable labour over this, and it is likely to prove very attractive, as it is to be a perfect representation of a miner's camp. Everything points to the exhibition being one of the featmes of show week.
Tho inos.t extensivo cemetery in Europe is that at Rome, in which over 6,000,000 human beings havo been interred. Another case of suspected leprosy is reported in Queensland. The supposed leper is a halfcaste woman. She is to be sent to Brisbane for examination.
