LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Land Board, held on Wednesday, was attended by Messrs J. P. Maitland (chief commissioner), H. H. Kirkpatrick, J. Duncan, H. Clark, and W. Dallas. Ranger Atkinson reported vipon Run 244 d, Tiger Hill district, and it was resolved to offer the run on pastoral license at the upset price of ,£9 per annum, with valuation for improvements at £99 ss. It was agreed to pay valuation for improvements upon allotment 8, Teaneraki settlement, £11 16s, less £2 I 3 8d arrears of rent, and costs of re-entry £1 10s; allotment 65, Makareao estate, £15, less £1 10s, cost of re-entry. An application from James Croft for license to occupy sections 1, 5, and 21, block 11, town of Ranfurly, was refused. A letter from 10 settlers at Taieri Beach, asking that section 62, block VI, Clarendon be withdrawn from sale was referred to Ranger Hughan for report. Ranger Atkinson reported upon the application by John Williamson to surrender his lease over small-grazing Run No. 205b, Rock and Pllar district. — Government to be recommended to accept surrender of the lease, the board being of the opinion that the present rent is much too high to admit of profitable occupation. An application from A. H. M'Kay for rural land; under Land for Settlements Act, section 24, block VIII, Maerewhenua district, was approved. An application to transfer section 39, block X, Glenomaru, from Agnes Sargison to Chas. R. Eason was approved. An application by John Langmuir to surrender lea3e of section 5, block X, Woodland, was referred to the ranger to report. Mrs Elizabeth M'Quade applied for lease to occupy section 79, block IX, Maerewhenua district. — Granted at rental of 2s Gel per acre. Ranger Hugh an reported upon applications by Mrs Ann Fitzgerald and John Young for license to occupy about 15 acres lying between sections 38 and 67, block VI, Tuapeka West.— License granted to John Young over area applied for by him at Gd per acre, with £1 is license fee. The following application for transfer was approved: — James Richardson (by his administratrix) to Mrs Ann Richardson, sections 10 to 13, block 11, town of Bastings. Thos. Osborne applied for a license to occupy section 18, block XI, Naseby quarry reserve. — Yearly license granted at rental of 10s, with license fee £1 Is. Emma Gibbons Bell applied for lease in perpetuity over an area of about 160 acres of unsurveyed land upon Run 36d. Tairas district. — Applicant to be informed tha.l the board lias no power to grant the license, the land being under pastoral license. T. Chalmer, on behalf of Allan M'Donald applied to be allowed valuation for turnip crop when sections 10 and 17, block VIII, and 7 to 10, block IX, Mount Hyde, are reopened for application. — Consideration deferred. The conditions of sale under which it is proposed to sell the leases over sections 182 to IS4, and 186 to 190, block I, town of Naseby, were approved. A petition from persons at Naseby, asking for revaluation of sections to be offered for sale, as the upset is too high, was received. Ranger Mackenzie forwarded a letter from the Mayor of Arrowtown stating that as the building had been removed froni section 2, block XXVII, Arrowtown, the amount allowed for valuation should be reduced. — Valuation to be reduced by £3. The salesman reported that Joseph Eeany had failed to lodge the required deposits :n connection with his application for section 1, block IV, Woodland. — Application, declared lapsed ; applicant to take out license from Jamiaiy 1 last to occupy land at £3 16s lOd, with license fee £1 Is ; otherwise to give up possession forthwith.
