CONCERT AT WALTON.
A well-attended concert was held in the Walton schoolhouse last Fjiday evening, the object of which was to laise funds to assist the local cricket club (which has just recently been formed) in obtaining suitable cricket material. The chairman (Mr James Eoudon), in his opening remarks, briefly referred to the laudable purpose for which the concert was organised, and the bsnefits to be derived fiorn the healthy 'ecieation which cricket afforded. Mr Loudon also took the opjioitunitj 1 - of expressing a wish. that the Bowling Club which formerly existed in the district would be re-formed. The programme was an excellent onfP the quality of which being superior to those usually submitted to a Walton audience, and those present showed their appieciation after each item by unstinted manifestations of approval. Miss Jessie London contributed the songs " Daddy" and "Life's lullaby" very tastefully; Miss M. Christie- sang ''Fiona," and subsequently look part with Miss M'Kay in a duet entitled " The wind and the harp " ; iliss M'Kay em" "The sailor's knot" ; Mr Broadley sang "When other lips" ai:d "Af tea water," "and received an imperative encore on each occa■sio.i; Mr L. Miller sang "The braes o' Mar,"and had to submit to an encore. At a, later stage in the evening Mr Miller sang " Maid of Athens." Miss Watteis sang "The soul's awakening, ' with violin obbligato played by May Donr.ldsou, with capital effect, and for which she wes lustily applauded. A pis.nofo:ic iluefc, " The witches' flight," was olay-id by Mi=s Miller a^nl Mr J. Easton in a. tkifiul manner. Mr 3. Gib=ou played a tenor horn solo, and Miss May Donaldson contributed a violin solo entitled " Air varie " (De Beriot). AC the conclusion of her piece, which was played with an accuracy and skill raioly found in one so young, the la&t-nienlionec! young lady, received quite an ovation at the hands of the audience, and submitted to a vociferous encore.
