The Caledonian Gold Mining Company applied for protection for six months for the following licensed holdings: — No. 58, section 3, block XI, Nenthorn; No. 59, section H-, same block ; No. 57, section 5, same block ; No. 63, section 6, same block ; No. 64-, section 7, same block; No. 79, section 15, same block ; special claim, No. 10, section 8, block XII ; and section 2, block XI, Nenthorn. The holdings had been occupied continuously from the respective dates of the grants of the same until now ; and had been worked by the company for 12 months. The registered office of the company was situated at Wellington, and it was proposed to remove it to Christchurch . or Dunedin, and to re-organise the company, and make

fresh arrangements for further capital to work the mine.— Mr Calvert appeared in support "of the application. — The Warden decided that separate applications would have to be lodged and posted for each holding for which it was sought to obtain protection. The Clyde Dredging Company (Limited) report a return of 12oz for last week. The dredge is now at work on Frenchman's Beach. The river is sft 2in above its normal mark. Mr Jabez Burton reports that the return from the Ettrick diedge is 13oz lSdwt for the week. Mr R., T.
