THE WOOL SALES.

LONDON, October 3. At the wool sales to-day the market was -irregular and in buyers' favour. October 4. At the wool auctions the Elderslie clips brought 10^d and lOgd ; Puketoi (Otago) merino, B|d ; Glentui,- B^d. At the wool auctions there was a brisk sale, and prices remained unaltered. At the wool sales the Brancepeth crossbrad clip (W. H. Beetham, Wellington) realised 7d. October 5. There is slightly better competition, but prices are unchanged. October 6. At the wool sales the Tipapa clip brought 7|d. At the wool sales crossbreds were largely - withdrawn. There was keen competition for merino wools. October 7. At the wool sales the Hororata merino clip {Sir John Hail's) sold at B£d. The wool sales closed dull. Prices are about par compaied with the closing sales of the July series. October 8. The opening advance in merinos and fine - crcssbreds has been generally lost. Low ■ crossbreds are from par to -^d below the July rates.- Faulty scoured pieces and locks higher. New Zealand scoured merinos are Id lower. The total number of bales catalogued is 217,000. The Home buyers took 127,000, America none, Continental 77,000 bales, while 27,000 bales were sent forward. It is expected 170,000 bales will be available for the November sales. The National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand (Limited) have received a cable from their London office to the - effect that the wool market is weaker.
