SUICIDE OF A GIRL. REEFTON, September 22.

Alice Shaw, aged 17 years, died suddenly on Tuesday. At the inquest it was shown that she had poisoned herself by taking 130 match heads. No cause was assigned for the act, but the evidence showed that she was subject to fits of melancholia, which appeared to run in the family, as the father committed suicide in another part of the colony a few weeks ago.

The hospital returns for the past week are as follow: — Patients remaining from the previous week, 106; admitted during the past week, 25 ; discharged, 14-. Sarah Miller and Lock Chang died during the past week, and the remaining patients number 115.
