MAUNGATUA.

September 26. — The 23rd anniversary of Welcome All Lodge, 1.0.G-.T., was celebrated on the evening of Wednesday last by a soiree in the schoolhouse at Woodside. The evening being fine, there was a very large attendance, the building being crowded in almost every part. Bro. D. C. Cameron, G.S., occupied the chair, and after ample justice had been done to an excellent tea provided for the occasion, and a few opening remarks from the chairman, the meeting was addressed by the Rev. Mr Saunders and Bro. J. W. Jago (Dunedin), Rev. Jas. Kirkland (West Taieri), Rev. T. Paulin (North Taieri), and Bro. Robert Chisholm (Outram), all of whom delivered excellent addresses on the subject of temperance and prohibition. The meeting was also enlivened by a number of vocal selections excellently rendered by an efficient choir from Dunedin. After the usual votes of thanks had been proposed by Bro. Joseph Burnett, the meeting was brought to a close by the pronouncing of the benediction. Accident. — A rather serious accident befell Mr Hugh Wilson, of this district, on Thursday last week, while ploughing for Mr John Blair, of West Taieri. While Mr Wilson was adjusting some part of the fastenings connected with his team, a young horse, which he was breaking in, kicked him on the side, causing painful injuries. Happily, no bones were broken, and although laid up for the present, Mr Wilson is now in a fair way to recovery.
