THE FEDERAL RIFLE TEAM. WELLINGTON, September 14.

Major Sommerville has selected tie following team to represent New Zealand in the Federal Rifle matches in New South 'Wales, and has submitted the names to the Commandant of the Forces for his approval : — Lieutenant-corn. Kirk, Petone Navals ; Colour-sergeant Hawthorne, Civil Service Rifles ; Bandmaster .King, Oamaru Rifles ; Sergeant Simpson, Kaiapoi Rifles j Sergeant Kruse, Wanganui Rifles ; Private A. Ballinger, Wellington Guards ; Private Howe, Wellington City Rifles ; Private M'Gregor, Oamaru Rifles ; Private Ricfiardson, North Dunedin Rifles ; Private Winslade, Wanganui Rifles ; Private C. Hall, Wellington Guards ; Gunner Webster, A Battery. Auckland. Emergencies : Corporal Lester, JE Battery, Christchurch ;' Petty-officer Spensley, Ponsonby Navals. It is very doubtful whether Major Collins will be able to obtain leave of absence to enable him to take charge of the Federal Rifle team. If he cannot accompany the team the command will devolve upon Lieutenant-commander Kirk. Colour-ser-geant Hawthorne, who shot so well afe Bisley, has been granted leave of absence, and will after all be a member of the team. The Commandant has officially approved of the team, Avhich will leave Wellington for Sydney direct by the Tarawera on the sth^October. The meeting begins on the 17th October. MartiniHenry rifles are to be used at the meeting.
