The Petitions Committee has no recommendation to make in regard to the petition of Union sti'eefc School Committee and others regarding inspectors being under the control of the Education department, as the matter is one of public pclicy. The Railways Committee has no recommendation to make on the petition of Wm. Carlion and others of Ratanui, Clutha, praying for an extension o£ the Catlins River railway, as the question is one of public policy. The matter is therefore refenc-.d to the Government.
