TROTTING IN ENGLAND
A big trotting match apainst time took placo at Blackpool, England, on June 27, vagcr of i^OQ to £200 being laid that J. Andrews, of Ashton-under-Lyne, could not drive 60 miles in three hours with the aid of three horses. The hordes that Andrews relied upon were Good Friday, Phyllis Wilkes, and Ella Maclcay, all noted stayers. The first 21 miles were accomplished in 61min SOsec, each horse having been driven about 'e\ en miles. At the end of &■'?, milor-, Andrews had 3inin to spare, and he finished off the 60 miles in 2hr 55min 37f.ee, or with 6min 23sec to spare. A mile handicap trot decided in conjujietion with the match resulted in a mare named Lady R. creating a now English record by covering the distance from the 50yds mark in 2min 15 2-srfec or equal to about 2min 20 2-ssec for the whole way.
