THE FAIR RENT NII.
TO THE EDITOR.
SiR.-In answer to a quest ion I see the Minister foi Lands docs not intend to bring the Fair Rent Bill forward this session. -Perhaps the Minister or some of his staff v/oiild be kind enough to enlighten us, through your columns, how certain land* in the \\ aihemo electorate, both freehold and leasehold, have declined m value durinpr the last seven years to the tune of from 16 to GO per cent., wmle : ihe adjoining lands have not only kept up their value, but increased it during the same period. — I am, etc., Waihemo, August 12. Blindfolded.
" Observer " sends the Post the following note:— '"The evening sky of August 18 and 19 will present a beautiful sight— Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury will be close up together, while the moon, new on August 17, will be hastening up to share in the show. 1 believe, if tho sky should chance to be clear, that Venus will be visible in the afternoons of August 18 and 19, and very possibly, if the sky be very clear, Jupiter also. 1 have twice seen Jupiter in tho daytime at Wellington when close to the moon, but then the dust o£ the Krakatoa eruption was not in the^ sky, as now, sadly interfering with such deiic.ito work." "Observer" might have added that} Saturn will not be far from the quartet ha. names*
