LYELL, August 12.

Alpine. — The Mine Manager reports: — Stoping is being carried on at the back of No.lo man south level, the reef being from 4ft to 16ft in width. In the No. 11 level the contractors have driven a further distance ot 13it. The country has become somewhat harder, and I have started a crosscut to ascertain if the reef is living alongside of the levels. In the slopes at the Lack of thin level the reef is from 3ft to 7ft wide. Tho repairing of the prospecting drive to the north in No. 10 level h?s been completed, and a start will be made to-morrow to cut out a chamber preparatory to sinking the winze on the body of stone met in the floor of the drive. During the week 230 tons of stone have been sent to the battery. The top plates at the battery yielded 187oz amalgam from 410 tons.
