Miserable weather was experienced for the second day of the Canterbury Jockey Club's Grand National meeting. Heavy rain fell during the night, making the going heavy, while the afternoon was showery. The totaiisator investments amounted to £9237, ? against £8439 on the second day last year. Results :

Penrose, "Wedlock, and Mount Royal led round the top turn, but entering the straight Swordfish took the lead. At the distance Crusader joined the leader, but Swoidfish held his place, and won by a neck from Moouraker, who came with a fine run pt the finish ; Ciusader a length away thud. Time, lmin 22 2-ssec. As the last jump was reached Kuku drew out, and won by two lengths from Coa-stguard, who was a length in advance of Dugald ; Puketoi fourth, and Dundonald fifth. Time, sinin 35sei-. Dividend, £3 6s 6d.

Napoleon, Hussar, and Dundee were naost prominent as the first flight of hurdles was cleared, and took the second flight together, just in advance of the rest of the field. Magazine here came down on his knees, but made a splendid recovery. Dundee showed the way payt the stand, with Hussar and Napoleon next, but Hussar was first over the next fence, where Napoleon fell. Along tho back the order was Dundee. Hussar, and Social Pest, with a length between each, Opai here moving into fourth place. Rounding the bend Opai further improved his position, and the intervening hurdles having been successfully negotiated, Opai jumped the obstacle at the top of the straight simultaneously with Dundee. The latter again drew away, and took the last flight ju-t clear of Hiissar, Opai close behind, with Social Pest on his quarters. Once fairly on the run home a few strides took Social Pest to the front, and, going on, he won comfortably by two longths from Dundee, Kanaka, a length behind, gaining third place by a fast run home, in which he was followed by Nicholas, Opai, Hussar, and Misslire in the order named, lies and Magazine were the last two to finish. Time, 3min 58sec. Dividend, £6 10s 6d. Rain fell during the race.
BEAUFORT STEEPLECHASE. Of 200sovs. About two miles and a half.

Nor'-west and Guide refused the first obstacle, and Conscript, Stanley, Morag, Claylnore, and Robin, m that order, formed the leading division round the top turn and into the straight. Here Coastguard rail off. Conscript led over the stand double, where Powder Monkey and Ma-gpie fell. Down the back Conscript was passed by Claymore and Stanley, but the last-named immediately fell, leaving Claymore tluee lengths ahead of Conscript, who led Moritg by a length. These three finished iv that oider, Claymore winning by live lengths, the same distance between second and third. Bootlei mid Huntingdon, at very long intervals, were the only others to complete the course. Time, smm 21 l-osec. Dividend, £17 15s 6d.

Castashore and labeiator led past the stand, Supplejack going in front of them at Cutts's, only to give way before the next fence was reached. Castashore, Penrose, and Liberator ran together along the back and round tho top turn, where Duudee fell. Kanaka drew away in the straight, but Liberator renewed his etforb, and was only beaten by half a length, Penrose third, a length behind Liberator, Time, 3mm 12 2-ssec. Dividend, X 7 15s.

At the turn into the straight Sequin compounded, and Whario and Bimctallis! took up the runniag. At the distance the former of these took command, aud won by a length and a hall, two lengths between second and third. Time, 2min 21 3-obcc. Dividend, £7 18s 6d. A protest against the winner for crossing was dismissed.
