COUESING.

The August meeting of the Coursing Club was held at the Forbury Park yesterday. There was a small attendance. The entries were not numerous, but the coursing in a number of -the events was of an interesting character. Mr A. Cursey acted as judge. The following are the results: —

OPEN STAKE. Foe all-aged dogs. Winner, £11 ; runner-up, £5; third dog, £2. First Round.

Young Sydenham beat Kate Kearney. Blackthorn beat Erebus. Saxon beat Wood's Hotel. Belle Clair beat Mary Ana.

Pmewood a bye.

Young Sydenham led up by three or four lengths, and only let Kate Kearney in at the close of a short and not very interesting course. A good run up was witnessed between Blackthorn and Erebus. The former secured the turn, and had tho best of a good give-and-take course, which ended in a kill. Sa,xon led up to a strong hare, turned twice, and then let in Wood's Hotel, but pussy, after that, beat his pursuers. Belle Clair led up by two or three lengths, and beat Mary Ann pointless.

Second Round.

B'ackthorn beat Sydenham. Saxon beat Pmewood.

Belle Clair a bye

Blackthorn and Sydenham raced up together, but the former secured the turn, and afterwards did most of the work. Saxon led, and got the turn ,and had the best of the exchanges in a long course.

Third Round.

Blackthorn beat Belle Clair.

Saxon a bye.

Blackthorn led up by two lengths, and secured the first turn ; Belle Clair then got in, and scored a few points, after which Blackthorn put in a few wrenches, and the hare escaped.

MAIDEN STAKE.

Winner, £10; runner-up, £4. Colleen Roe beat Gold Medallist. Annie Wood beat Kathleen. Elmina ran an accidental bye.

Ringmaster ran a bye. Gold Medallist led up, but Colleen Roo afterwards got in, and ran up a big score during a long course. Annie Wood led up, and had all the best of the exchanges. Waitangi, who had to meet Elmina, was withdrawn.

Second Round

Annie Wood beat Colleen Roe.

Ringmaster beat Elmina. Annie Wood led by several lengths, and ran up a respectable score before Colleen Roe got in. The latter worked well, but could not wipe out the white bitch's score. Ringmaster led, and did most of the work in the early part of the course. Elmina then got on, but scored practically nothing.

Final Round.

Mr S. Myers's Annie Wood (Razzle Dazzle— Rozelle) beat Mr Harley's Ringmaster (Ruff or( i — Ringdove), and won the stake. Ringmaster led, and secured several turns before Annie Wood got in. The latter then kept tho hare pretty well to herself, and gave Ringmaster the "go-bye" several times.

The fact that the coursing was so poorly patronised yesterday led many to predict that the last meeting at the Forbury had taken place at the conclusion of the day's sport. Several gentlemen present endeavoured to give a reason as to the decline of coursing, and compared the sport at the present day in Dunedin to what it was a few years ago. However, the prediction that coursing here is at an end is not likely to be verified, for it is understood that ihe club will guarantee a £100 stake for next year. Such a handsome prize should certainly attract sportsmen all over the colony to Dunedin next year.
