JL CHURCH. r DIOCESE OF DUNEDIN. t £1500 WANTED TO MEET GRANTS OF v £1500 FOR A SEE HOUSE. c In commending tlie above to their Fellow r Churchmen, the Members of a Committee api. pointed for this purpose beg to point out: I. That a See House belonging to the Diocese y is a necc-ssary part oj Diocesan equipment, and -must in any case be provided ' at no distant date. " 11. The Bishop, when in England, secured o promises of help from societies at Home . f to the extent of £1500, all of which are y conditional upon an equal amount being | raised in this Diocese, and £1000 or - ' which 13 conditional upon the amount be- ■•- ing raised during the present year These promises- are not likely to be renewed, so t '•- if not taken advantage of at once they j will be almost certainly lost to this Dio- ? cese altogether. '• 111. That tho raising of an Endowment Fund , 11 and the acquirement of a See House or ' r its equivalent -nera pledged to the Bishop '" on his accepting the Diocese. In the 0 year 1873 the Diocese, recognising its re11 ' sponsibihty, promised through its representatives the sum of £150 a year 'to tbo Bishop as house rent. This was i again acknowledged and renewed in tbo i 3 years 1874, 1875, and 1877. It was, how- * over, only partially fulfilled, and that for l. a very sbort time. IV. That by failure of the above-mentioned arrangements a large sum of money has p bpcorrsc duo to the Bishop. The amount now asked for from the Diocese is only a about half of the sum due, but is not asked for as a payment to the Bishop, r but to meet the giants so that the quest tion of the See House may be settled. ', V. We therefore appeal to ouv Fellow Churchu men to respond generously at the present juncture, and either 1. To aend their contributions direct to the 3 Diocesan Treasurer, Mr C. H. Statham, Dunedin, or 1 2. To co-operato with tho Clergy and Church Committees in making a systematic r canvass in their parishes and districts : on this behalf. The following will accomplish it and pay ' all expenses: — Eight Subscribers at £50— seven already promised 3 Fivo Subscribers at £20— two already pro- > mised Fivo Subscribers at £10 \ Ten Subscribers at £5 Fifty subscribers at £2— one paid. ; One Thousand Subscribers at £I— one paid. 3 Any of these sums may bo given in one sum . or collected in smaller amounts. i Churchmen of the Dunedin Diocese, are we I ' going to let the £1500 slip through our hands? Signed on behalf of the Committee. C. G. KOBINSON, Archdeacon, t C. H. STATHAM, Diocesan Treasurer. ' Dunedin, August 1898.
