Tho Duneclin Stock Exchange hand ua th© following extract from the Mount Lyell Mining Co.'s report for week ending July 13:— "No. 4 tunnel: North drive, No. 1 crosscut extended 4ft, total 16l£t; south drive No 3 crosscut, N.D., extended 7ft, total 241 f t: No. 3 slopes, stopes yielding high-grade ore; No, 1 engine shaft, 50ffc and 75ft level stopes, stopes yielding high-grade oro. The old stopes at these two levels are being re-timbered, and, as already cabled, some rich ore has been met with at the 75ft level.' Three hand samples were taken over a width of 3ft, — i.e., each sample representing: Ift in width. Tne result of the assays were : — No. 1, next footwall, ddwt gold, 1,3630z silver, 9 5 per cent, per; ton copper; No. 2, next footwall, trace gold, 6380z silver. 3.3 per cent per ton copper ; No. 8, next footwall. trace gold, 28Joz silver, 1.5 per cent-, per ton copper. No. ] and 2 samples were pyrites, and No. 3 was quartzite. The locality of this ore is near the winze from the 75ffc, afc the northern end of the stopes. A drive has been started north along the footwall on the rich ore exposed." Under date July 22. the general manag*r reports: — "This development has been opened up about 6ft, the drive being in country showing a hard and soft quartzite band, as well as a vein of pyrites ; total wicUh, abenit 2ft. Assays of the quartzite run trace to Jdwt to ldwfc gold, 8 to 15, 17 and 16, to 2750z silver, and 4 to 5 to 7 per cent, copper, while the pyrites runs Idwt gold, 22-toz silver ,and 6.2 per cent, copper. Those af-cßyq represent bulk boring*."
The Stock Exchange report a dividend of 2» per share in the Broken Hill Biock 10 Company, payable on the 24th iust. ShotovVr Quartz Mining Company (No Liability) —Mr S. E. present on hanging wall side; harder on footMr James C Nicholson, manager of Farrell's Waipori Deep Lead, reports for the week ended Slst ult. : — "I washed the mattings and streamed down yesterday, and obtained since former clean up borne 12oz gold from top stuff only. Everything is working well and I expect a fair return at the general clean up nfcxt week, seeing that the rich auriferous bottom wash remains as yet untouched, and that no cleaning is done whatsoever about the elevator." The. Dunedin Stock Exchauge report a dividend of 2s 6d per share was declared by the Golden Treasure Co. on the sth inst. A Greymouth telegram states that new dredging claims are being taken up in different parts of the district. Most encouraging news continues to be received from the Banytowu No. 1 G.M. Company, and the ground in the vicinity (about seven miles of it) is exciting attention. An Auckland telegram states that the Waihi gold mine crushed for the month 6845 tons for bullion valued at £20,722— the second highest return yet received. The Royal Oak crushed 20 tons ore and 7841b picked stone for bullion valued at £1600. An Auckland telegram states that the gold return for the month was valued at £39,486, being an increase of £5841 over the previous month. The Moana- _ iaiari Company, Thames, crushed 500 tons for bullion valued at £26R : the Kuranui- Caledonian 157 tons for bullion valued at £526; the 1 Mahara-Royal, Tapu, 225 tons for bullion valued at £551 ; Waihi-Silverton, Ohincmuri, 1100 tons ' for bullion valued at £1219; Manposa, Kuaotunu, 208 tons for bullion valued at £262. i An Invercargill telegram says that the Morning Star crushed 3330z from 273 tons in No. 1 level. They have struck .another body of excellent stone, averaging ljoz to the ton. The Surprise Company have driven 16ft across the reef, which shows gold-bearing quartz, and is not yet through. - Reports fiom the Golden Site and the Alpha are satisfactory. A new reef showing good gold has been stiuck in Long Sound, Cuttle Cove. A Greymouth telegram says: — The Barrytown No. 1 Gold Mining Company are now down 40ft below the surface. After passing ■through Bft of drift the men struck clo3c gravel containing 1 good payable gold. The company are now elevating the stuff. The 80Jt face is looking well — better as they open out. The greatest depth at which gold was previously got was 14ft. Above the layer of drift there is 25ft of auriferous payable wash. In the progress report of the Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Company for the week • ending July 20 it is stated that No 3 stope south drive and No. 1 engine shaft in No. 4 ■ .tunnel were yielding high-grade ores. Of No. 1 engine shaft the general manager advised on . July 25 that the bulk borings assay silver, 1120oz ; copper, 10 per cent. Bulk borings were being taken over the whole of the face, and the ore is principally in quartzite and baryta. At the reduction works No 7 blower is approaching completion at No. 1 smelter. Up to date 721S tons of blister copper had been consigned, leaving 1343 tons for the rarreul half-year.
