STAY, RUSHING YEARS.
The days wore short, hut the years too slow, In the years long, long; ago. I was reaching out to the great beyond — But now — it is not so; For the days seem long and the years too short, Now I am old and grey. I am out of breath with the speed of time. Stay, rushing yeais! oh, stay! Tho sap is stirred in the old gnarled trees By the spring sun and showers; The crusted earth, with its frosted face, Sends up a smile of flowers. So the heart feels young at the touch of Spring, Under its mask of years, And flowers are sweet to the aged eyes, TJLous'h they are dimmed by tears. Tjic-1 slacken thy steps; hurry not, clear Spiing! Come buds imd leaves of May, Flinrf thy sweei garlands round the wheels of Time, And make the hours delay. — E. E. J., in Westminster Gazette.
