DUNEDIN HOMING PIGEON CLUB
The annual Derby rscr, held under the au&pices cf Iho Dune din Homing Pigeon Club, was flown eft' from Stutlboma Junction on Saturday undir very unfavourable conditions. The biids bad to battle for 85 miles against^ a strcng south-west wind aeeompaiued by rain equalls and miet. The velocity recorded was slow. The gtaticcmsster alS'-udholme Juuction liberated 15 birds, representing 11 members of the club, ar.d of the former six were timed in np fco a late hour on Saturday. Mr J Gr. Moore's Ihuiiderbolfc secured first place with a velocity ot S99yd* per minute, Mr W. H. Jeavcn's Avon Pearl was second with a velocity of 869>ds, and the same owner's Red Wing secured' third honours with a velocity of 861yd3. Mr U. Powloy's Right Bovrec came foujth with a velocity of 848 yds. The club def-ire to think the station master (Mr Connor) for the vary efficitit msLn«r ia which ha lib&iattd the bird?, and for hi 3 kindness in furniahii-g, by letter, full information of the weather conditions at Studholme.
