Rabbit Extermi nation. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, — In your issue of the 14th I noticed a letter under the heading of " Rabbit Extermination," signed by Edward Clark, in which the writer makes use of the ridiculous .words, " horrible trapping." Ho is apparently at one with the piesent Government to get trapping done away with, and then the services of working men (who arc now employed trapping) can be piocuicd for starvation wages. One would think, by his letter, that he is paying too high a rent for lm land, and is trying to throw the blame on the rabbits for not getting better profits, for, judging by his letter, he is a landowner. Up states that owing to the " horrible trapping " the schools and churches have suffered a decrease in attendance. I know of one school in a district where trapping is carried on to a3 large an extent as in any place in Otago. and a noticeable decrease has not occurred, and as to the church, it was never better attended than when trapping was at its height. Mr Clark is apparently greatly in. favour of pollaid poison. I can recommend him to lay plenty on his land, and his stock will not require to eat so much grass. He wants to give the rabbit inspectors more power, also the head of the department a free hand and unlimited funds, and yet this same Mr Clark i 9 crying out against the taxation increasing. Mr Clark says "ii the Government will take his scheme in hand the country will havo cause to remember the Seddon Government, and the members' name 3 will be handed down to posterity in letters of gold." I think without his scheme the members' names will be handed down in letters of some other colour when one looks at the increasing taxation. As to pensioning the inspectors off, or presenting them with farms, I am sure that if they got farms ihey would have to take off their coats and work. I hope Edward Clark's tender heart will with time get over his dislike for the cruel act of horrible tiapping." — I am, etc.,
