KAITANGATA.

i April IS.— The Kaitangata Borough Council held their monthly meeting on Wednesday evening. There was a full attendance of members. Correspondence was read - and received from the Timaru Borough Council and W. Geary. The , following tenders were accepted :— Street lighting, 1 R. Burleigh, £33 I8i; formation of Catharine , street, James Hislop, £18 8s 9d. Accounts to the value of £36 15s 9d were passed for payment. The following motions were put and carried :— Cr Mackenzie—" That tenders be called for painting bridge" ; Cr Christie—" That a committee of the whole council make an inspection of the principal streets and report on necessary repairs at next meeting"; Cr Mackenzie— " That a special meeting be held on May 11, at 8 p.m., to adopt a resolution forming a by-law for building regulations " ; Cr Carson—" That a general rate of Is in the £ be levied on all rateable property."" The meeting then closed. ; .Athenaeum. — A special meeting of the Athenaeum Committee was held on Friday evening. The business for consideration was the resignation of the president, Mr Nicholson, who has filled the office continuously since 1884. The resignation was accepted -with regret, and the committee's appreciation of services rendered was recorded on the minute;. Mr Mackenzie was appointed to sign cheques with the librarian (Mr Bradley). | Concert. — The band concert- on Fiiday evening ', proved one of the most successful yet held here. ; The funds of the band will be benefited to the amount of £15. Bowling —The bowling season is to be closed oil Saturday, when the return match President v. Vice-president will be played. Mining Examiners.— Mr W. M. Shore left this morning en route for Wellington to attend a ! meeting of examiners appointed under the Coal Mining and Mining Acts of 189]. Football.— Association football has again been taken up by quite a large number of enthusiasts, and we may expect a repetition of the successful play of the team of 1890-91.
