OUR VOLUNTEERS.

Some very useful work was pub in by (he Dunedin Engineers during the period of their Easter camp at Taiaroa Heads. There were 60 members under qanva?, and the corps had the benefit of the services of Major Beal and Surgeon-major Will. Part of the time was devoted to topographical work. The country to the south of the-camp was closely examined, the site for a defensive position sslected, surveyed, and marked off. The electrical section esbablished telegraphic communication between tho signal station aud the various batteries, and also underwent submarine mining instruction, while the sigoaliers were engaged in choosing sites for permanent signalling stations, and succeeded in establishing communication by heliograph between the camp and the top of Mihiwaka.

The Borough of Milton (reports the 1 local paper) is some £200 in credit, and this will be further augmented shortly by'the paymenb o r publicans' licensing fees.
