(Mr H, Rich) 0 ( Mr Large's Bayard, 10.4 (Mr French Davis) 0 Mr Bleackley's Trencher, 11.7 (Mr Atkinson) 0 ] Betting : 6 to 5 on Norton. 8 Norton led to the first fence, when Torfrida II ] settled down clear of Sting, Barquharry, and Fat i and Free, with Norton and Destroyer next, and Trencher last. So they ran till crossing the j straight the second time, when Torfrida II was j still in front, followed by Sting, Norton, apd j Trencher. As they went down the hill on the tar g side Sting assumed the command, and shortly afterwards Norton became second. At the fence before making- the turn for the rail side Torfrida II fell, and Norton assuming the lead as they entered the straight won easily by five lengths ; a * bad third. Only the three placed completed the ' course. ,
