WELLINGTON NOTES.

By Onlooker.

April 18. The disqualification of the brothers Kingan by the Manawatu K.C. has been endorsed by the Wacganui J.C.

The stewards of the Wellington R.C. at a sprcial meetiDg decided not to adopt the proposal of the secretary to increase the Wellington Cup to lOOOsov?. * The North Island Trotting Association hold a meeting at Palmerston North on the 25th inst., the business being the fixing of the date of the annual meeting, also amouut of the levy upon clubs affiliated to the association. JXbe annual meeting of the Shannon Hack R C. was held last Wednesday. The principal events were won thus :— Kahuriri 10.3 won the Hurdles, of Bsovs, one mile and a-half, in 3min llsec ; Shannon, the Hack Handicap, one mile and a-quarter, in 2min2l§sec; Pauper (out of Barbara), the Easter Handicap,in lmin 57sec. The stewards of the Wellington R.C. have refused to issue Adam M'Morran a jockey's license. Hb is very anxious to get a jockey's license, but does not avail himself of the trainer's license, as be is working in a stable. There is no truth whatever in the statement made by a southern paper that the proposal to increase the stakes for the Wellington Cup emanated from aJocal bookmaker.

Strathbraan arrived from the south last week, and will in future be trained by R. Wheeler. Kaburiri, who won a double at Shannon, is swoed by Tom Scott, and is a six-year-old bay Tnare by Ascot from the steeplechase mare Maimanga. In the Trial Hurdles Scott started Whanjaroa (by Somnus), but he ran off. Mr Tai te Tau purchased a yearling colt by Stepniak from Cobweb from Mr G. G. Stead atOhristchurch recently, and brought the youngster back ■with Ned Kelly Ned Kelly's breeding has always been doubtful, but I gee the papers now give his 3ire es Dubious. In the Wairarapa, where ha has rsiced, hjfi ftftt?* aeaents have always been a ipyrtet^

Perhaps the biggest commission worked on an Australian event for years was that done with the local bookmakers at starting prices over Vedette in the Final Handicap at Sydney on Saturday.
