TO CORRESPONDENTS.
Two or three replies are held over, the information required having to be sent away for. A. H. W. (Invercargill) asks this : B backs Stevens to beat Leith in the Dunedin Jubilee Pigeon match. E backs Leith against Stevens. Leith kills 5 out. of 9 and does not star. Stevens stars and kills 6 out of 8 on Ms star nomination ; ia his other be kilh 3 out of 5. One man was backed against the other — nothing mentioned about stars. TV ho wins? Answer: Leith in his first nomination missed his second and fifth bird, thus killing 3 out of 5. In his_ second nomination be kills the two first and misses the third and fourth, thus killing 5 out of 9 shots. Stevens missed his first bird and starred, beginning afresh. Then he misses his third bird and kills the rest, thus killing 6 birds out of 8 shots: In his second nomination he misses his second and fifth, making 3 out of 5, so that his second nomination equals Leith's first. As to Leith's second and Steven's first, Leith kills 2 out of 4, and Stevens, not reckoning the first shot, which is starred, kills 5 out of 6, or, with the star, 6 out of 8. To put it another way, Stevens had - altogether 13 shots and killed 9, or not counting the star, he killed 5 out of 7 and 3 out of 5, while Leith had 9 shots and killed 5. Stevens beats Leith without the star. There can be no doubt that E, the backer of Stevens, wins. A Lakes correspondent writes asking for the complete returns of the four leading English jockejs for 1897. They are as follow :-M Cannon, 624 rides, 145 wins; b. Loates, 690 rides, 136 wins ; C.
