British Battleships Versus French and Russian.
The gentleman I have just referred to does not think there will be a war, but in conversation with him he expressed an opinion that lias been corroborated by one of the latest review articles. When entering the Inland Sea — that stretch between Sikok and Kinsin, and between these islands and Nipon — several battleships and cruisers were passed, and it struck him that the foreign ships seemed the more formidable, and lie 'so expressed himself to the pilot. He, however, tlioughfc otherwise, and, drawing attention to the top gear, heavy armaments, and narrow beam of the French and Russian navies, said that, they were top-heavy, and would roll heavily in action and were less seaworthy.
But I have already over-run my allotted space, aud will leave their relative merits to stand over till next week.
