NEVIS.

March 21.— 1 am happy to say that our quiet little community is busy as the pioverbial bee improving the shining hours, abundant r-howers having set the streams once more rolling down a bountiful supply for all purposes, and every available bit of ground commanded by water is being attacked again with the vigour characteristic of the sturdy miner.

Agricultural.— Our crops have turned out nofc so bad, thanks to the cool weather, and although late they are much better than those of last year. School — The attendance is very reaular, and *here are now IS on the roll, the largest number foi. some years pavb. A False Alarm. —We had quite a mild sensation here Ust week— no less than a rumour of war. One of the "bagmen" who periodically visit us with a view of supplying oar stores brought word also that Russia and China had opened the war dance, and of course we had all Europe at it before the week was out. Let us hope that the influence of one mild panic will not in any way piecipitate such an appalling calamity. It is to be hoped the poweis that rule will not let bems and lions growl and light, even though "'Tis their nature to." Angling. —Fish have not been at all in evidence this year, the muddy water incident to the dredging and the very low state of the Nevis River being answerable for this. There are some beauties iv the head waters of the Nevis, but they are hard to catch with auy hair. lam glad to say we have not seen any evidence of the pools having been dynamited this year.
